All the common factors are indeed important when doing your birth control planning, such as how effective each method is, whether you'd be comfortable using it, whether you have some condition that might prevent using some methods or make others preferable. But there's one factor which, ironically, you should never forget, and that is your own memory. If in fact you have a terrible memory, then birth control options that rely on said memory should probably move much lower down on your list.
If your birth control plans focus on the pill, then your risks if you fail to remember depend to a certain extent on what kind of pill it is, and where you are in your cycle. If you're taking a combination estrogen-progestin pill, you may have some leeway, because it helps prevent ovulation along with affecting cervical mucus to prevent sperm from reaching the egg.
Even so, certain days in the cycle are more risky to forget than others, and as you "catch up," you will need other forms of birth control as a backup for several days. With progestin-only pills, you might be vulnerable to pregnancy within hours, not days, of forgetting.
The birth control ring would be one option that might work better with your memory problems, though you still need to remember a schedule. It is inserted and left for three weeks, then removed for the week of your period. And after that, another ring is inserted for another three weeks. This is another option to consider in your birth control planning. But it may still not be as workable as something like injections by your doctor, which would occur every month or every three months.
Remember that if all your best birth control planning decisions go awry and you somehow forget and find yourself at risk, there is the final option for preventing pregnancy. Many pharmacies sell the "morning after pill" as an emergency contraceptive, which is most effective if taken within twenty-four hours. Still, it has a lower success rate and shouldn't be your constant backup. Far better to choose a regular birth control method that will take your memory issues into account and be most reliable.
