I just saw the movie The Last Airbender and here is the movie review. There are some of the fans of the show that were disappointed in the live version, but I did not have the biggest problem with it. There are definitely some strange pronunciations of names and there are some scenes that are altered, but the fight sequences in the movie are worth checking out. But when judging this movie you must look at the plot, the characters, and the action.
The Nickelodeon show has characters that have personalities that people begin to associate with the show. This movie does fail to show the richness and versatility of each of the characters' personalities; it only seems to show it in spurts. Such as Aang being an overly excited child that makes mistakes and enjoys laughing, but in the movie he is portrayed as a child with an adult personality. And even in the show Aang does become very serious at times, but he also enjoys laughter, a part of Aang that the movie failed to show. The characters that did not have the right looks but matched the personalities really well were, Price Zuko and his uncle, Iroh.
The plot is pretty close to the original show. They do reach the same goal and start off pretty close to the same spot, but the way they arrive to that point is changed. Such as the invigorating speech given by Aang in the movie to rally the earthbenders, was originally given by Katara. Small little insignificant aspects like that won't really bother you, but they are different. Strange pronunciation of the names actually bothered me more.
The fighting and actions sequences are really what make this film. Much like the TV show, the movie definitely used real martial arts rather than simply copying from another film. The bending, the fight scenes, and the 3D effect were really good. Although the plot and characters may make you mad especially if you are familiar with the show, but the fighting is great.
So overall, there are high strengths and high weaknesses to this movie. Having said that, it is still worth seeing. A lot of people were bothered by the changing of races and things of that matter, it did not bother me I cared much more about the characters and the plot than I did about races. I would give this a 4 out of 5, because of the few changes that annoyed me. Check it out! Also the series is available below.
