Relief Of Woman Who left 500,000 Jewellery In Hotel Room
A lady has been reunited with the 500,000 worth of expensive jewellery she managed to leave behind in the hotel room of one of London's top hotels. The guest who is said to have been of American origin had checked out of the Westbury hotel in Mayfair forgetting that the extensive collection of jewellery was still inside.
The range of jewellery contained many items including a designer watch, expensive necklace and earrings set and two different diamond rings. The jewellery was discovered by a maid who was responsible for cleaning the room after the guest had left. Once found the jewellery was kept safe before its eventual return to the lady.
Reports have suggested that the maid then proceeded to lock the hotel room safely before seeking the advice of the hotel manager on what to do next.
A spokesman for the Westbury hotel has been quoted as saying, 'The chambermaid had changes the beds and vacuumed the room, and was carrying out a routine check of the cupboards and drawers when she discovered them.' The jewellery has since been described by hotel staff as being, 'stunning,' and very unique.
Hotel staff initiated a search of the local area and shops before even looking inn Heathrow airport for the mystery woman. She was nowhere to be found though.
Eventually the hotel received a tearful phone call the following Thursday from the woman who had by then realised her mistake.
She explained how she had left the hotel in a mad rush in order to get to Heathrow before boarding her flight, taking off and only then realising she had left her prized jewellery in the hotel room cupboard.
All of the jewellery has now been returned to the owner, who is said to be understandably grateful.
