Looking At The Lucid Dream Experience

If you possess the ability to dream with the knowledge that you are dreaming, it is known as the lucid dream. Hence, it requires you to have the capability to make your body go to sleep while you travel to the realm of dreams with a fully conscious and wakeful mind.

The subject of the lucid dream is extremely popular in nature and numerous individuals are bent on inducing it in their lives. The sole reason for this is because, if one is aware of the fact that he is dreaming and moreover has full dream control where he can do, see or experience whatever he wants to, then the experience is one of a lifetime. Again, the person is also aware that he can never come to any harm after waking up, making the entire process highly exciting and addictive.

DILD and WILD are the two forms of lucid dreaming. DILD stands for Dreams initiated Lucid dreaming which in simpler words means that the dream occurs first and then the individual suddenly becomes aware that he/she is dreaming. Needless to say that this is fairly common and does not involve full dream control.

A WILD or a wake initiated lucid dream on the other hand is when the dreamer passes from the realm of consciousness to that of the dreams being completely conscious and in a wakeful state of mind. Thus, in this case, only the body of the person falls asleep while the mind remains alert and focused. WILD is very rare and full dream control can be achieved here which is highly difficult to develop and is accompanied by a lot of intense vibrations, loud noises, shivering and tingling sensations.

Dream Recall is a very important aspect when it comes to the lucid dreaming process, be it DILD or WILD. Unless you are able to recall or remember your dreams, there is no use in inducing lucid dreams at all, since even if it happens you will not be able to recall the experience. Tools like dream journals, audio recorders, etc can be used in dream recalling.

Technological interventions can also be used in achieving the lucid dream. For example, hearing two different sound waves by way of the binaural beats through each ear of an individual creates the much required mental state. These beats fuse together and synchronize in the brain to create the same.

If you repeatedly tell your sub conscious to notice a particular object in your dream, then whenever that object features in your dream, your sub conscious mind will register it and let you know thereby providing you the knowledge that you are dreaming. Known as MILD, it is another technique to induce the lucid dream state.

It must be said that the primary objective of the lucid dream is to let the body rest and keep the mind wakeful so that you can be aware that you are dreaming. In other words, you need to practice control during the hypnagogy stage, which is the border between sleeping and waking up. Techniques like chanting, counting your breaths, visualizing ascending a high flight of stairs and counting the stairs as you go on, are some tools which would help to successfully pass the hypnagogic stage, without your mind falling asleep, so that you can embark on an unforgettable journey of the lucid dream.
