All of us love to have that great theater quality sound in our own home. What we don't love is the mess of wires that is usually associated with connecting a home theater system to our DVD players and our flat screen televisions. Often, you have to find very creative and ugly ways of hiding all those cords which can just create an even larger and more unsightly mess. But you don't have to worry about this issue when you upgrade your theater sound system to a wireless one. Researching wireless sound systems is easy to do thanks to the internet. Some of the things you will want to consider is the quality of the brand, how far the sound reaches, how their design will fit into your current home theater system and how expensive they will be. And as with anything, you get what you pay for, so you should definitely do your due diligence to get a wireless sound system that not only makes you happy but will impress your friends too!

Wireless sound systems work because they use either infrared or radio frequencies to be able to push sound through the room. When you choose an infrared wireless sound system, the speakers will transmit a red beam or laser to send the information and sound back and forth. Infrared wireless sound systems can send sounds between 50 and 2000 bits per second. Infrared speakers are really nice if you are using your wireless sound system in a small sized room since they can't be more than 20 feet apart to be able to transmit sound properly. Your speakers, sound system and other equipment will also need to be able to "see" each other so they can communicate and if you wanted to keep them hidden, this might not be an option for you.

With radio frequency speakers, the sound is transmitted via radio waves. Most speakers of this type use 900MHz speakers at a transmission speed of 40kbps, and this has the advantage of not needing a line of sight in order to transmit the signal, making it much stronger. However, you still have to keep placement in mind when installing these speakers, as there are range considerations you have to take into account. You might experience some interference with phones and the like, but that is being worked on. You will also have to pay a lot more for these than you would for infrared speakers.

One of the nice things about wireless theater systems is that there are a wide variety of speakers to choose from so you can basically match any design or style that fits within your budget. Usually when you get a wireless sound system, the whole system will come together. This includes front speakers, a center speaker, smaller rear speakers, a transmitter, amplifier and a sub-woofer. This system might be a little bit more expensive but it helps you to create the entire home theater system you want right out of the box.

You also have options to add on wireless speakers at your leisure. These can be added to the wireless system you already have at any time.
